2025

Trumpeldor Gallery, Be’er Sheva

The series Home expresses experiences of dislocation and the search for stability in an era of uncertainty. Created before the outbreak of the October 7 war, this body of work prophetically raises questions about states of emergency and a profound sense of threat.

At the center of each piece stands the image of a house - or more precisely, the skeleton of a structure within which a solitary figure appears. The house, typically a familiar and protective space, here lacks a floor and seems to float or hang without grounding. The figure within drifts between the physical and the spiritual, between a sense of home and the loss of material anchor, pointing to an existence suspended between serenity and an unseen abyss.

The works resonate with the concept of liminality - an ambiguous threshold zone in which an in-between state unfolds and distinctions between safety and anxiety become blurred. The house in these works is a ghostly space, embodying the feeling of uprootedness experienced by those seeking safety but finding themselves inside an empty structure. In this way, the transitional space functions as testimony to an ongoing condition of preparedness for emergency. This series offers a reflection on the notion of “home” in a time of crisis - when every stable framework may, in an instant, dissolve into a fading memory.

Curated by Mia Dabash and the BA Curatorial Program students at Ben-Gurion University of the Negev.

“Addressing borders in this era is almost inevitable,” says curator Mia Dabash.
“But what distinguishes the works here is the sensitive and investigative way in which they examine the border not only as a limitation, but also as a site of transformation - a line that can be crossed, and re-imagined.”
